LOVE LESSON

Throughout times people have come to me to hear about love. I regard people’s trust that I can offer something useful a high privilege. After all, we’re here to serve. Such sessions usually don’t last long, especially if people don’t ask me to make recourse to visual and symbolic language, such as reading cards.

Here’s what I say in three parts, by taking into account the way people themselves invoke a time-frame for their narratives, based also on their desire to understand ‘what went wrong.’

PART ONE:

For past time:
Love was what it was. Nothing more nothing less. If it didn’t work out, it’s because the two involved (or sometimes more) were not on the same page.

For present time:
Love is what it is. Nothing more nothing less. If it doesn’t work out, it’s because the two involved (or sometimes more) are not on the same page.

For future time:
Love will be what it will be. Nothing more nothing less. If it won’t work out, it’s because the two involved (or sometimes more)  will not be on the same page.

PART TWO

I also say that given this situation, it is pointless to invent narratives that depict the missing one(s) in a colorful way, and that would make us feel better, or help us to cope, such as the following: he/she was/is/will always be a liar, already married, immature, unconscious, ungrateful, stupid, uneducated, insensitive, vain, narcissistic, hysterical, manipulative, a witch. Love is still what it is, and the fact that the other may or may not be all these things is beside the point. If love doesn’t work, it’s because the parties involved are not on the same page.

What does being on the same page mean, some ask. To this I ask in return: Do you give all, or are you ambivalent? Does the other give all, or is the other ambivalent? If there’s incongruence, then you can be sure that it won’t work. Love is what it is. You can only give all, and think of the other as your first priority not as an option.

PART THREE

I offer the suggestion that outside of time/space constraints there is love that exceeds existence, the IS. Here I add: blessed are the ones who know what that means.

May you all find love, and remember: things are simple. Love is what it is. Nothing more nothing less.
